What changed from July to August
July showed a mixed picture, with transactions down 4.52% year on year while value increased by 6.40%. Balances collected were also down 3.38%, suggesting that some near-term booking activity had not yet materialised.
August told a different story. Transactions increased by 3.53% year on year, value rose by 12.44%, and balances collected were up 11%, with the strongest movement appearing in the final two weeks.
A late booking signal
The August pattern suggests that some booking activity which may normally have appeared earlier in the summer was delayed rather than lost. The stronger balance collection figures in weeks three and four point to demand converting later in the period.
Why it matters
For travel businesses, the data is a useful reminder that headline monthly performance can shift quickly. A softer period does not always mean demand has disappeared; in some cases, it may indicate that booking activity is moving later.
What to watch next
If this trend continues, delayed bookings may keep converting into late bookings and near-term departures during the first half of September — a signal worth monitoring.
